Offline maps

BTC Map already works offline for its data: a snapshot of places, areas, events and comments ships with the app, and everything synced since is cached on your device. That covers search, place details, area pages and events without a connection.

The map tiles, however, are normally streamed. If you want the map itself available offline — for a trip, a festival or a region with poor coverage — you can download an area’s tiles.

Downloading an area

1. Open the area from its chip on the map or from search .
2. Choose Download map (in the menu or the offline section).
3. Pick the maximum zoom. Higher zoom means more detail and a larger download; the dialog shows a live size estimate as you move the slider.
4. Confirm the download. Progress is shown on the area page while it runs, and you can leave the screen.

If an area would be too large to download, the estimate warns you and the download is disabled, so you can lower the maximum zoom and try again.

The size shown is only an estimate; the actual download depends on how much map data the area contains.

Managing a download

Once an area has been downloaded, its page shows the size, zoom range and status. From there you can:

• Download again — refresh the tiles, or download them for a different map style.
• Delete — remove the downloaded tiles from your device. A confirmation is shown first.

Map styles

Offline tiles are tied to the map style that was active when you downloaded them. If you later change the style, the area page tells you the download was made for a different style and offers to download it again.
