Comments

Comments let you leave a note about a place for other people to read — for example whether a merchant still accepts bitcoin, or how the payment went.

Reading comments

Open a place to see a preview of its comments and the number of comments. If there are any, tapping Comments opens the full list. Comments are read from your device, so the list appears instantly and works offline. Dates are shown in your device’s time zone and language.

Adding a comment

Comments are anonymous, but a small fee in sats is charged as a spam protection measure. Adding one does not require an account, but it does require a Lightning wallet on your device.

  1. Open a place and tap Comment (or Add comment if there are none yet).
  2. Type your comment. It cannot be empty.
  3. Continue to request the current fee.
  4. Pay the invoice with a compatible wallet — either scan the QR code or use the Pay button, and copy the invoice if your wallet needs it.
  5. Once the payment is confirmed, your comment is posted and a message confirms it.

If you do not have a compatible wallet, the app tells you so.

Notes

  • A comment is submitted to BTC Map and becomes visible to everyone once the payment is confirmed; it can take a moment to appear.
  • If a sync fails, the comments screen reports the problem instead of claiming there are no comments.
  • Comments are cached locally, so previously synced comments remain readable offline.
